A search for good pseudo-random number generators: Survey and empirical studies

This paper targets to search so-called good generators by doing a brief survey over the developed in history of pseudo-random number (PRNGs), verify their claims and rank them based on strong empirical tests same platforms. To do this, genre PRNGs so far are explored classified into three groups — linear congruential generator based, feedback shift register cellular automata based. From each group, well-known widely used which claimed themselves be ‘good’ chosen. Overall 30 selected this way two types testing done blind statistical with Diehard battery tests, rabbit TestU01 library NIST test-suite as well graphical (lattice test space–time diagram test). Finally, divided 24 ranked according overall performance all tests.
